INWRDAM was established in 1987 by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, Islamabad, Pakistan (COMSTECH). The Headquarters of INWRDAM are located in Amman, Jordan and hosted by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan through the Higher Council for Science and Technology, Amman, Jordan (HCST).
As a think tank INWRDAM focuses on policy and applied research and conducts dialogues - through which it seeks to advance ideas, concepts and policy direction to inform policy making and program formulation processes towards shaping the contours of water resources development and management in the member countries.
INWRDAM is a non-political and non-profit autonomous body having international legal status.INWRDAM is one of the technical organs of COMSTECH and OIC specialized in the identification of water resources management and development programs.

INWRDAM conducted an Expert Group Meeting on: "Climate change and possible impacts on water resources in OIC member countries" during 25-28 October, 2010, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Meeting). This Meeting organized in cooperation with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Malaysia and funded mainly by the Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Seventh Governing Body Meeting

Under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Dr. Adel Tweissi, President of INWRDAM and Secretary General of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, Amman, Jordan, INWRDAM held its Seventh Governing Body Meeting (GBM) in Amman, Jordan during April 27th – 28th, 2010. The Focal points of INWRDAM from Bahrain, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Uzbekistan and COMSTECH attended the GBM.
